Summary of technical aspects of MRI analysis in Multiple Sclerosis- ELOY MARTINEZ DE LAS HERAS

Abstract: Noninvasive brain imaging techniques are increasingly playing important roles in elucidating structural and diffusion properties in neurodegenerative disorders. It is widely believed that these different imaging modalities provide relevant information to understand the tissue microstructure. The aim of this seminar is to introduce an overview of the theoretical and technical developments in non-conventional MRI. The application of MRI to the study of MS has greatly improved in recent years. Our objective is to develop novel technical tools in brain imaging and provide new insights on architecture of the brain anatomical connectivity.

Biography: Eloy Martínez de las Heras was born in 1982 in Tarragona. He is a biomedical engineer who is working in the Multiple Sclerosis Unit at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona and IDIBAPS since 2010. He had a degree in Chemical engineering at the Universitat Rovira I Virgili (URV) in 2007 and a Master in Biomedical engineering in 2009. He is preparing his PhD project based in Diffusion MRI. He has been involved in several projects that applied spectroscopy, diffusion tensor imaging, structural segmentation and magnetization transfer to MS patients. He contributes significantly in optimizing our MRI protocols and developing novel post-processing algorithms for the neuroimaging and clinical research work in the team.
