Optic Neuritis: Old and New. Visual pathway: what are we doing now?- MD Bernardo Sánchez Dalmau
Abstract: An update of new concepts in evaluation, pathogenesis and treatments in optic neuritis will be commented. A review of the studies ongoing at the Visual Pathway lab and our experience after 3 years will be summarized.
Bernardo F. Sánchez Dalmau obtained his degree in Medicine from the Universitat Autónoma of Barcelona in 1987. He did the speciality of Ophthalmology at the Hospital de la Santa Creu I Sant Pau in Barcelona (1989-1993). He received formation in Neuro-Ophthalmology in 1997 at Wills Eye Hospital under the supervision of P.J. Savino and in Wilmer Eye Institute-Johns Hopkins Hospital in 2005 with Neil Miller. He was the responsible of the Unit of Neuro-Ophthalmology in Hospital Mutua de Terrassa from 1993 to 2005. Actually he is the Coordinator of the Neuroophthalmology Unit in the Ophthalmology Department in Hospital Clínic of Barcelona since 2005 and colaborates with the Neuroimmunology group at IDIBAPS-Hospital Clinic as Senior Investigator and Co-Director of the Visual Lab. He is Associate Professor in Ophthalmology at the Universitat de Barcelona. His main points of research are the visual system as biomarker of neurodegenerative disorders and imaging developments in the eye to evaluate axonal degeneration.
